Requirements for behaviour support (please read before submitting a request!)
- The main carers/parents being healthy enough (both mentally and physically) to put in place the changes required by the intervention. This includes being able to cope with a temporary escalation of the child’s behaviour.
- The main carers/parents being willing to put in place changes in their routines and/or interactions with the child. Making changes to behaviours and habits we’ve had for a long time is difficult. Think that if you continue to do the same you are likely to continue to get the same results.
- The main carers/ parents need to have an open mind and be receptive to new information, even if it conflicts with their current beliefs. This is not about rejecting all of your beliefs, but being able to reflect on them and realise when they are not beneficial to your child.
- Given that my support is 100% remote, the only way I can make the necessary observations to assess your situation and progress is via videos recorded by you. The main carers/parents need to be willing to share these images with me and provide written consent for me to securely store and use them during my work with the family. After my work with the family ends, the images are immediately deleted.
- Having a device that allows you to record what happens before the behaviour/incident, the incident itself and the de-escalation or what happens after. The length of the recording needed will vary depending on your individual needs and in cases where the behaviour or incident is unpredictable, having a device recording for several hours will be necessary. In most cases, the camera will need to be hidden so the children’s behaviour is not affected by them seeing it.
- The main carers/parents need to be available for, initially, weekly videocalls within Gemma’s availability.

The length of the recording needed will vary depending on your individual needs; in some cases this will involve recording all night. If you think the child’s behaviour can be affected by them knowing they are being recorded, hiding the camera will be necessary for me to be able to see the child’s usual behaviour.
